Toowoomba Regional Council is inviting residents to help the environment and plant a tree on National Tree Day this Sunday 29 July.

National Tree Day is an important date on the national calendar as it allows community members to take a positive step towards protecting the environment.

Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the day will provide a chance to join community members and Council to plant native trees in a popular park.

“National Tree Day is all about planting and caring for native trees and plants that complement our local area. The day will hopefully inspire others to continue the good work for generations to come,” Cr Ramia said.

“The objective is to increase canopy cover and improve the surroundings of the local area.

“Council is aiming to plant 3,000 native trees throughout the parkland that have been grown by the Crows Nest Community Nursery.

“Many hands make light work. I know from past events that residents go home with a real sense of satisfaction that they’ve made their home town a little more special.

“National Tree Day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy our bush surrounds and connect with fellow gardeners.

“I encourage all residents and their families to get involved in this great initiative.”

National Tree Day will be held in Thiess Park, 76 Luck Street, Toowoomba, on Sunday 29 July from 8:30am-11:30am. Council will provide the trees and equipment.
