Whoever said gardening was a relaxation activity should talk to the Toowoomba Region’s Parks team who are midway through planting just under 160,000 annuals and 20,000 bulbs in readiness for the spectacular 2017 Carnival of Flowers.

The team have been getting up close and personal with mother-earth to ensure the city’s gardens, walkways, parks and public spaces bloom on time and in a perfect kaleidoscope of colour for Carnival.

It’s massive – check these figures out:

  •  Queens Park: 40,000 Annuals and 8,000 Bulbs are being planted
  • Laurel Bank: 68,000 Annuals and 10,500 Bulbs
  • Picnic Point, Tourist Info and Top of the Range: 26,000 Annuals
  • CBD (Ruthven/Margaret Streets): 6,500 Annuals and 1,500 Bulbs
  • Newtown Park, Vera Lacaze, Chalk Drive: 11,000 Annuals
  • And on Spring Bluff: 8,000 Annuals

That’s a lot of spadework and bended backs!! But, it’s all part of the annual preparation for the famous Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, title holder of the Australian Tourism Gold Award for Major Festival or Event.
