As more than half the State remains in drought, RACQ Foundation has urged Queensland community groups to apply for recovery funding.

RACQ Foundation spokesperson Kirsty Clinton said local groups could apply for funding of up to $50,000, or up to $200,000 in exceptional circumstances, to support their community following a natural disaster.

“As resilient as Queenslanders are, after a natural disaster locals often need a helping hand – that’s why the RACQ Foundation was established,” Ms Clinton said.

“With more than half of Queensland currently drought declared, we know how hard the dry has hit communities across the State and we want to help.

“RACQ Foundation funding can be used to get groups back up and running at full capacity, benefitting the local community and providing a much-needed morale boost.”

Ms Clinton said last year grants were awarded to 20 groups including BMX clubs, kindergartens, surf lifesaving clubs and agricultural associations right across Queensland.

“These groups provide a great local service to the community and we’re happy we can help them recover,” she said.

“These grants were spread across Queensland – from drought-affected Miles, through to cyclone-ravaged Sarina.

“If you know of a community group impacted by natural disaster which needs a helping hand, urge them to apply before applications close on 12 September.”

Since 2011, RACQ Foundation had distributed more than $7.6 million to 193 drought, flood and cyclone impacted community organisations.

Community groups could apply for funding at the RACQ Foundation website.
