Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN (DDWMPHN) have announced the launch of a free after-hours service providing GP consultations via phone and video calls as part of an agreement with ReadyCare.

DDWMPHN is funding local access to ReadyCare, which is part of Telstra Health, and provides people in rural areas with ‘after hours’ access to GPs by calling a triage centre on a toll-free phone number, to have a GP call them back within an hour.

After the phone or video call appointment, the service user’s regular GP will be updated with details of what was discussed and actions taken.

The service is available free of charge to people within the DDWMPHN region in after hours periods only – from 6pm to 8am weekdays, from 12 noon on Saturday, and all day on Sunday and public holidays – until June 30, 2017.

The DDWMPHN region covers most towns in the Darling Downs and West Moreton regions, from Ipswich in the east to Glenmorgan in the west, north to Taroom and south to Texas.

Service users can find out if they are in the DDWMPHN region by going to: http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/phn-locator  and

typing in their residential address.

If patients call this service outside of the DDWMPHN region or outside of the After Hours periods a service fee will be charged.

To access ReadyCare phone (toll-free) 1800 870 711.
