Toowoomba Regional Council will continue the temporary closure of Mort Street between Thackeray and Hogg Streets until 5 August 2018 for further upgrade works.

Council’s Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Infrastructure Committee Cr Carol Taylor said that following the completion of the stormwater system upgrade this week, work would begin on sewer upgrades as part of the Mort Street Upgrade Project.

“The temporary closure is needed to allow complex live sewer works to take place. These are works that can be completed quicker and safer under a road closure,” Cr Taylor said.

“Traffic can continue to use Hogg/Holberton/North Streets or Griffiths/Ruthven/North or Jellicoe Streets during the temporary closure.”

Local access will be maintained for northbound traffic through to Thackeray Street and also for businesses and properties in the section between Thackeray Street and Hogg Street but not for through traffic.

Council thanks businesses and the community for their patience and co-operation during these works and apologises for any inconvenience that the extension of the temporary road closure may cause.
