A man accused of strangling a dog to death in January this year could be set to contest ‘animal cruelty’ charges.

The 71-year-old man who is yet to enter a plea is alleged to have strangled the animal outside his home in Grand Street, Pittsworth

He has been accused of holding his neighbour's dog on the ground with both hands around its throat, choking the animal to death in front an elderly woman who was taking care of the dog while its owners were on holiday.

The matter has been adjourned until August 1.
