More than $10,000 is up for grabs for the Southern Downs Community Groups to help put an end to the “Ice” problem in the community.

The Alcohol and Drug Foundation are putting up the cash and are asking for applications to set up a Local Drug Action Team in the area.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud says Local Drug Action Teams will put in place plans to tackle the issue through a variety of ways:

That’s with respect to education prevention and also respect to rehabilitation, that’s another facet that needs to be driven locally.

Then, obviously there’s law enforcement.  That’s the one that State Government needs to get hard on – those pedalling the drug.  There should be no escape for them, they need to do hard time.”

Applications are open now and close on the 14th of next month.
