This is an incredible opportunity for Queensland female musicians to kick start their career.

The Queensland Government and Queensland Music Festival’s (QMF) inaugural Carol Lloyd Award is an annual $15,000 award that will support emerging female singer-songwriters and honour Australia’s first ‘Rock Chick’. For details on how to enter, please visit www.qmf.org.au.

This award will be presented to an emerging female singer-songwriter, who was either born in, or resides in, Queensland. With support from Arts Queensland, APRA AMCOS and Hutchinson Builders, the successful applicant will be awarded $15,000, and with this, will have the opportunity to record their own full-length album or record and tour their own EP.

This award will give recipients a head start in their career, the means to broaden their experience within the music industry, and will help them to realise their goals as an emerging artist.

Carol Lloyd was the first female singer-songwriter in Australia to front a successful rock band, making her name in the ultimate boys club when she started out with Railroad Gin in the 1970s, then the Carol Lloyd Band, and finally as a solo artist, stacking up number one hits along the way.

This award is a fitting tribute to the musical legend, Australia’s original ‘Rock Chick’ from Queensland who paved the way for the careers of countless female musicians and who recently lost her battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

The judging panel for this award will be Katie Noonan, Joc Curran, Leanne de Souza, Sean Sennett and John Willsteed. The winner will be announced in May 2017.

For applications and more information, please visit qmf.org.au. Submissions close 5pm, 31 March 2017

*Applicants are classified as emerging if they have not been contracted to a major record label as a recording artist.
