A Toowoomba man has appeared in court to face several charges, including keeping a snake at home.
Police found the snake at the Helidon Spa home of 35-year-old Eric Kenneth McAlister while conducting a search of the property.
As a protected species the keeping of the snake attracts a maximum fine of up to $12,600. Mr McAlister said he was unaware how much the fine was for keeping the reptile.
McAlister pleading guilty to the snake charges along with a number of drug related offences including driving under the influence of drugs after being pulled over by police on July 1.
He was fined $2000 for keeping the snake and sentenced to eight-and-half-months in jail for the other offences. He was paroled and disqualified from driving for three months.
