Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) are advising that as part of the Griffiths Street Upgrade Project, short-term changes to traffic conditions will happen between Mort Street and the New England Highway. The changed traffic conditions will include the closing of one lane on Griffiths Street from September 10 through to early December 2018, weather permitting.

TRC Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said during this time, Griffiths Street would become one-way for westbound traffic whilst eastbound traffic will need to seek an alternate route via Jellicoe Street or North Street.

“Heavy and oversize vehicles will need to travel via Jellicoe Street as an alternate heavy vehicle route due to the height restriction of 3.5m on North St.

“Construction work will take place generally between the hours of 6am – 6pm on weekdays.

“There may be a requirement to undertake some weekend and night works. Council will seek to minimise disruptions where possible,” Cr Taylor said.

“During construction, Council will ensure that access to Griffiths Street businesses is maintained at all times. We encourage the community to continue to support these businesses during the upgrades.”

“The Griffiths Street Upgrade Project will be the primary connection between the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) and the New England Highway via Mort Street, improving traffic conditions for all users.

“The project aims to improve safety, drainage, and lighting to accommodate the increase in traffic flow expected from the TSRC.
