Toowoomba’s Village Green is set to receive a facelift as part of works to upgrade the Civic Precinct.

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr Geoff McDonald said the Village Green upgrade would tie in with the recent construction of the Toowoomba City Library and the current project to refurbish the City Hall Auditorium, which includes construction of an annex extension on the western side of the City Hall building.

“The first stage of works will include a new arbour structure, plantings and seating arrangements,” Cr McDonald said.

“This work will be delivered as part of the City Hall Auditorium and Annex extension project and will be completed before this year’s Carnival of Flowers in September.

“The second stage of the works, which will begin after the Carnival of Flowers, will include an upgrade to the remainder of the Village Green area.”

Cr McDonald said the Civic Precinct had long been a focal point for community activities in Toowoomba.

“The refurbished City Hall Auditorium and Annex extension, new library and upgraded Village Green will be an important asset for the community that will attract tourists and residents alike year round,” he said.

“The Village Green provides a welcome space for people to relax and enjoy the surroundings as well as being a venue for community events.

“The landscaping works will be in keeping with the integrated development of the Civic Precinct to provide a modern facility that the community can be proud of.”

Council thanks the community for its patience and co-operation during these works.
