Rangeville State School Year 6 students are happy with their newly donated buddy bench as they want to leave a legacy in which no child feels lonely on the playground.

Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki MP today delivered a buddy bench to the school which was made by the Toowoomba West Men’s Shed.

“Buddy benches provide students with a safe, comforting place to go when they are feeling lonely and are in need of a friend,” Mr Janetzki said.

“They are a signal to fellow students that a child might need someone to talk to, someone to eat lunch with or play with,” he said.

“Our schools are doing a wonderful job in promoting anti-bullying messages and this buddy bench will complement what the schools are already teaching in and outside of the classroom.”

Toowoomba West Men’s Shed president Murray Trewavas said he was happy to be involved in the special project when approached by Mr Janetzki.

Rangeville State School principal Ben Kidd thanked Mr Janetzki for the donation.

“At the beginning of the year I set the Year 6 students a challenge as to what will be their legacy,” Mr Kidd said.

“So they set themselves a goal of improving students’ feelings of being accepted and included in the school playground and this buddy bench will align beautifully with what they are trying to achieve,” he said.

Mr Janetzki and the Toowoomba West Men’s Shed are currently working together to create more buddy benches for schools in the Toowoomba South area.
