5 Year Sentence for Botched Armed Robbery

A man has been handed a five-year jail sentence for the botched armed robbery of a Toowoomba Taxi driver last year.

34-year-old Dwayne Owen Wharton pleading guilty to armed robbery and wounding.

Wharton and a female friend had hailed a cab in October 2016 when Wharton later made the decision to rob the taxi driver - holding a knife to his throat and demanding money.

The taxi driver received cuts to his hand while struggling with the offender.

Wharton is eligible for parole in June 2019.
