November has arrived, signifying the beginning of turtle nesting season here on the Central Queensland coast!

Every year from November through March, sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, before the little hatchlings emerge and make their way back to the ocean. 

So in the spirit of the season, here's some facts about our Central Qld sea turtles! Did you know...

On average, turtle hatchlings weigh 15-30grams and measure between 5-7cm

The Great Barrier Reef is home to 6 of the world's 7 sea turtle species

An adult leatherback turtle can be up to 2m long and weigh up to 900kg!

The estimated lifespan of sea turtles ranges from 60-80 years.
