The Rockhampton Riverside project has won the state award for landscape lighting at the inaugural WE-EF After Dark Competition.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council was thrilled to learn that the Riverside had been announced as best in the state.

“When designing our Riverside precinct, it was important that it looked just as impressive at night as during the day and Urbis, with Rixon Design, delivered beyond our imagination in every aspect,” Mayor Strelow said.

“It has well and truly enhanced the experience for people who enjoy this part of our city and presented so many opportunities for events to have a real world-class look and feel about them.”
The project designer, Urbis, received a commendation at the Minister's Award for Urban Design 2018 earlier in the year. Urbis Landscape Architect and Director Glen Power said the design of the lighting gives Rocky a unique identity.

“Urbis and the consultant team are truly proud of what has been achieved. The project has – from day one – been an extremely rewarding and enriching process,” Mr Power said.

“Through the Riverbank project, the Council, the design team and the Contractors have created a place of celebration, a place of enjoyment and a place for creating memories.”

“This project exemplifies the integration of lighting design within the entirety of the public realm all brought together by smart networks.”
The competition is designed to recognise and celebrate the very best of Australian landscape lighting.
The Rockhampton Riverside project is now one of four in the running for the National Winner title at the AILA ‘The Expanding Field’ Conference on the Gold Coast this week.
