With a confirmed case of Zika virus in our neighbouring region of Mackay experts are saying prevention is the key to keeping mosquitoes away this wet season.
Not only can Zika make its way back to our region from foreign countries, but Dengue and Ross River too.
Central Queensland University's Professor Andrew Taylor-Roobinson says there's some scientifically proven methods to keep the pests away, "Covered clothing, not so easy in tropical climates, certainly in the Australian summer. If you can't have long sleeve clothing then insect repellent. Little and often people think that if you spray it will last you for the day but it's very much the same as sunscreen you've got to do it through out the day."
