New blueprint will help to save the Great Barrier Reef

It's hoped a new blueprint will help to save the Great Barrier Reef.

The GBR led a summit over two years ago to get the document in place.

It will mean better protection for our Southern reef zones off Gladstone like Heron and Lady Elliot Island.

Chief Scientist, David Wakenfeld says they're focusing on a few different areas, "we focus a lot on public education, around the zoning but obviously we're also bringing online new vessels so just recently we had the reef centennial which is a high speed boat which is specifically equipped to operate at nighttime, because a lot of people who deliberately fish do so at night time to try and avoid being caught."
