A former Gladstone resident is set to scale 33 of the world's toughest peaks for charity.

At 29 Joshua Worley is aiming to raise $100,000 for ReachOut Australia and the Australian Climate Council, in the project he calls Vertical Year.

He'll be visiting Canada, South America, the USA and New Zealand. Attempting to summit 33 peaks between 3,000 - 6,800m elevation. A total of more than 34 vertical kilometres of terrain.

Worley said he wanted to show people you don't have to be a professional athlete to undertake epic adventures like this, "If you are passionate, dream big and commit, then it is within reach of all of us."
