Gracemere's Cherryfield Road is the latest to receive a major upgrade, as Rockhampton Regional Council continues to roll out its road maintenance program across the Region.

Chair of Council’s Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Tony Williams, said the upgrade totalled around $370,000.

“The works in this area include around 1.2 kilometres of road, from Reigal Drive and Ashford Street,” Cr Williams said.

“This road has gone from an unsealed gravel road to a fully sealed bitumen road, now a metre wider than it was before.

“The stormwater drainage has been fully upgraded, as well as two floodways. In past wet weather, this area would scour regularly, so these works are very timely as we now approach storm season.

"Our road maintenance funds allow a large number of works to be carried out within Council's budget and ensure that we are remaining proactive when it comes to addressing the maintenance of our roads, both urban and rural.

"Road upgrades and maintenance are a high priority for Council and it's something we are carrying out all over the Region," Cr Williams said.
Division 4 Councillor Ellen Smith said the upgrade is receiving a good response from the community.

“The road looks fantastic and is a great drive, and I know I’m not alone in thinking that,” Cr Smith said.

“We have already received a lot of positive feedback from local residents, which is great because we had a number of requests from drivers to upgrade this road.”
