UPDATE: A woman has died and a man is critical, after a car hit water pipes outside an Erina Aged care centre on the Central Coast Highway earlier this morning.

Police say the single vehicle hit water pipes outside an Aged Care Centre on the Central Coast Highway near the Avoca Drive intersection just before 10,

The 70 year old front seat passenger died at the scene, while the 67 year old driver has been airlifted by the Westpac chopper to Sydney in a critical condition.

It's understood he has neck and back injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, while two of three westbound lanes remain closed.

It's the fourth fatality in as many days on local roads, following the deaths of a motorcyclist at Wyoming, a pedestrian at Kanwal, and a cyclist in Gosford.
