Coasties might have gotten another bung deal when it comes to massive lunar events.

The moon's expected to shine blood red across the east coast about 4am tomorrow as the longest lunar eclipse of this century gets underway.

But just our luck: the Weather Bureau's David Wilkie says high cloud is expected over our patch.

"It will be quite patchy, it's not totally certain how thick it will be either," Mr Wilkie said.

"There probably will be some cloud about, and hopefully if we're lucky will get some breaks to see the eclipse."

It comes after there was much disappointment, when we couldn't spot the Super Blue Blood Moon back in January!
