An Aged Care Facility at Umina Beach remains in lockdown this morning, following an outbreak of Gastro.

Visitors have been banned from the Peninsula Village and almost 300 residents have been confined to their rooms since Monday.

CEO Shane Neaves says there's been a total of eight confirmed cases.

"We were ready to reopen on Wednesday - public health rules say we have to give 48 hours notice - but a few new cases arrived yesterday... so much for celebrating International Nurses day."

Gastroenteritis can be extremely serious, for the elderly.

Visitors are being requested to take residents out of the facility for Mother's Day, and employ hand hygiene.
