All northbound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway are expected to close at Freemans Waterhole tonight to move a truck that has crashed off the motorway.

A lengthy salvage operation is expected to start at around 8pm to recover the B-double.

Northbound motorists will be diverted off the motorway at Freemans Waterhole onto Palmers Road.

Motorists can then travel along Cessnock Road and Awaba Road to Toronto, then Cary Street and Main Road through Fennell Bay, Lake Road through Glendale to Wallsend, then Newcastle Link Road through Cameron Park to return to the motorway.

This diversion is suitable for all vehicles, and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

The motorway is expected to reopen early tomorrow morning.
