In breaking news, the state government has scrapped a plan to create several no-fishing zones off the Central Coast.

Terrigal MP Adam Crouch has echoed Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair - who announced the backdown this morning - says the government agrees fishing is not a significant risk to the marine environment, after public outcry in recent weeks.

Mr Crouch has previously gone against his own party and opposed the proposal, labeling it "too extreme".

"From day one, I've been opposed this proposal and have been lobbying the minister that lockouts should be off the table for he Central Coast," Mr Crouch says.

"This is a great outcome, and obviously the consultation period will continue until September 27th, and I encourage all our fishos to make sure you get your submissions in."
