Road Spikes Stop Alleged Car Thief On M1
A man will appear in court today charged with traffic offences following a police pursuit in the Central Coast.
 
About 11.35am yesterday, police will allege a 38-year-old man stole a Toyota utility from Warabrook.
 
A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Cessnock Road; the Toyota allegedly failed-to-stop and continued on the M1.
 
About 1pm the same day, officers from Tuggerah Lakes Traffic & Highway Patrol Command sighted the vehicle on the M1 Pacific Motorway near Bar Point.
 
A pursuit was initiated and continued before police deployed road spikes as the vehicle approached Mooney Mooney.
 
It came to a stop near the Hawkesbury River Bridge.
 
The driver, a 38-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Gosford Hospital where he underwent mandatory blood and urine testing.
 
Once released from hospital, he was taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with take & drive conveyance, police pursuit – not stop, negligent driving, exceed speed over 30km/h, not give particulars to driver and drive contrary to prohibition order.
 
The Telarah man was refused bail to appear at Wyong Bail Court today.
