A man has suffered second degree burns to his legs and hands, after fire destroyed his Lisarow home overnight.

Six Fire and Rescue crews rushed to the Pacific Highway house after 8pm to find he and a pregnant woman had managed to get themselves out.

It's understood the man was injured while trying to put out the flames.

The man was rushed to Gosford Hospital, thankfully mum and bub weren't injured though she was also transported as a precaution.

Firies battled the blaze for about an hour, during which the roof caved in. It's believed a biofuel heater is to blame.

Police will head back to the scene to investigate this morning, but they aren't treating the fire as suspicious.
