UPDATE - 8:15am

The M1 has reopened southbound following a fatal crash at Warnervale early this morning.

A man was killed instantly and two others were injured when two cars collided head-on just after 4:30AM.

It's understood one of the cars drove onto the wrong side of the road near the twin servos.

There are still big delays in the area, with queues of 7km.

It's the 18th death on our roads this year and the third on the M1 in under 3 days.

Earlier Story

No word on how long the M1 will be closed southbound, as detectives head to the site of a fatal two car crash at Warnervale this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the impact, past Sparks Road, just before 5:00AM, with one man dead and two others in hospital.

It brings the Central Coast's road toll to 18 lives lost so far this year

This incident comes fewer than three days after a double fatal crash killing two men on the M1 further south at Mooney Mooney Creek.

The Transport Management Centre says traffic's currently queued up for around 5km past the accident site.

It’s expected to make localised traffic heavier than usual, around the Sparks Road, Pacific Highway and Wyong Road area as motorists return to the motorway.

While it looks like there's been a third two-car accident on Sparks Road through an area where traffic's being diverted.

Westbound lanes on that thoroughfare have reopened following an earlier smash.
