Plans to re-develop the Central Coast's most iconic picture theatre, have been given the green light by the Land and Environement Court.

After more than a decade of debate from Avoca Beach residents and action groups, the Court yesterday granted conditional approval for the $7.2M plan to convert the theatre into four screens, units and a basement carpark.

President of the Avoca Theatre Preservation Inc Steve Fortey, says "It's a disappointing decision that not only affects the theatre but the whole of the Avoca Beachfront."

"Having said that we're a little bit astounded too that the Land and Environment Court in Sydney can rule that there are no parking problems in Avoca."

"It's been at least 12 years that we've been fighting this development...but we wish Norm and Beth Hunter all the best. We accept this decision, we have to....we've got no choice."
