No plan to use federal cash

Central Coast Council has indicated it won't funnel a $26 million federal government grant into commuter carparks.

It's after Robertson MP Lucy Wicks said yesterday the sum could add 1,000 spaces around Gosford, Woy Woy and Tuggerah train stations.

“The council can spend this estimated $26 million in the way it thinks will serve the Central Coast best," Mrs Wicks said.

Instead, a council spokesperson says the local government will put the funding towards parks, road and water infrastructure.

These are among the things ratepayers said they wanted most, based on the first Community Strategic Plan for the region.

Meantime, Labor Councillor Jeff Sundstrom says the federal government needs to commit specific cash for commuter carparks, like the recent $15 million dollar election pledge from the Opposition.

"It's a bit like asking someone to pay for their electricity bills using the money they've been saving for their rates," Cr Sundstrom said.

"What that (specific commitment) does is it puts that money aside, and we can get on with delivering the projects."
