The federal government confirmed funding for several road projects in the Central Coast in last night's budget.

Robertson MP Lucy Wicks says more than $7.2m will be invested to help Central Coast Council upgrade Ryans road at Umina beach, Oceano Street Copacabana and the intersection of Langford drive and Woy Woy road at Kariong.

There's also half a million in funding for Banjo's Skate Park, which Central Coast Council is currently considering locations for in either Wamberal or Terrigal.

Last night's budget also featured the earlier announcement the government will spend $12 million over three years from July 1st improving internet connectivity between Hornsby and Wyong Train stations.

Meanwhile, the Federal Opposition to says Central Coast students at Newcastle Uni will be worse off under the latest federal budget.

Nationwide funding will be cut by $3.5 billion dollars, fees will be raised by 7.5% and the threshold of when HECS debts have to be paid back will be lowered.

In other interesting announcements form last night's budget.

  • People on welfare payments will be forced to take random drug tests, and be subject to additional measures to make sure they take part in work for the dole schemes.
  • $2.5 will be allocated for early learning and childcare, including the new system of fee subsidies where for families who earn under $185k a year, there'll be no cap on childcare rebates.
  • Parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids will have their family tax payments slashed by $28 a fortnight.
  • The government will fully fund its contribution to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, by raising the Medicare Levy from 2% to 2.5%. The NDIS is on track to be rolled out to all of NSW by July.
  • First home buyers struggling to save a deposit will be able to salary sacrifice up to 15 thousand dollars a year into their super funds.
