The man who fatally stabbed footballer Greg Gibbins could be a free man when he's just six years older than his victim.

Bradley James Brooks will spend at least the next 14 and a HALF years behind bars before he's eligible for parole - and a maximum of 22 years - after being sentenced in the Supreme Court today.

The 21 year old was convicted in March of murdering 28 year old Gibbo and wounding his friend ADAM "SNITCH" SWINDELL with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Toukley in 2015.

"At the end of the day, nothing is going to undo the pain for everyone involved, including snitch, and nothing is going to bring back Gibbo," said family representative Tracey Lindley.

"We can only hope that the system has made the right decision."
