Raiders fullback Jack Wighton will miss four more games over those assault charges, but will have to wait to see if he cops a harsher penalty from the NRL.

The club’s Board of directors handed down a six-match suspension, including the two games he’s already missed.

It’s after the 25-year-old pleaded guilty to five assault charges and one public urination charge from that night out back in February.

He’s expected to be sentenced on November 14.

The NRL will consider the Raiders’ punishment before deciding whether to impose a harsher penalty.

The club issued a statement yesterday, saying “Wighton has made moves to engage with the victims of his offence in February, agreeing to Restorative Justice, which would allow him an opportunity to repair the harm done by his offence.”

Club chairman Dr Allan Hawke said they’ll keep working with Jack to ensure he stays on the right path.

“We will continue to work with Jack to help him address the issues he’s facing, his welfare, his wellbeing and his rehabilitation,” Dr Hawke said.

“Jack has already taken some positive steps in this process and we will continue to ensure he’s doing everything he can to continue in this direction.”

Dr Hawke while they don’t condone Jack’s actions, they stand by the punishment handed down.

The decision has attracted a range of responses online…

“Good to see the board assisting Jack but six matches isn’t nearly enough of a punishment or deterrent.” – Bev

“Good to see the Raiders standing by and helping Jack get through.” – Catherine

“Six weeks? What a joke. He should be out for the rest of the season, at least.” – Penny

“He’s had a great season and improved heaps with his footy. Glad he is allowed to stay.” - Clinton
