A campaign to have more women on pedestrian crossing lights is getting a trial, with 10 little green and red ladies getting installed at intersections in Melbourne’s CBD.
The push for gender equality by lobby group the ‘Committee for Melbourne’ is backed by Vic Roads.
The Committee claims having men represented at pedestrian crossings reinforces unconscious bias by discriminating against women.
The goal is to eventually have just as many female walking signals as there are male in Victoria.
But critics reckon it’s political correctness gone mad and a waste of money.
What do you think of the idea? Should we have this in Canberra? Have your say on our Facebook page!
