First rainbow buses, then a rainbow roundabout, and now rainbow number plates!
Canberrans can celebrate marriage equality being official by installing new rainbow number plates!
The plates, which feature a rainbow strip along the bottom, are a way for locals to show their continued support of equality in Australia.
It’s after the ACT recorded the highest YES vote in the same-sex marriage survey and the historic passing of marriage equality laws in Parliament yesterday.
Canberrans can buy a set of the new rainbow number plates for $60, with orders being taken through Access Canberra from today!
Regulatory Services Minister Gordon Ramsay reckons they’ll be pretty popular.
“We expect these plates will be of high interest in our community with Canberrans looking for ways to support and celebrate equality,” he said.
“They are also bright and colourful and are sure to attract attention both locally and interstate.”
The first certificate fee will also be waived for those couples who married or registered a civil union under the ACT’s previous laws.
“This will support around 80 couples and we are pleased that this is another way we can acknowledge this important change,” Minister Ramsay said.
