Don’t put those umbrella’s away just yet – even more rain is expected in Canberra this week after the drenching we copped on the weekend.
It wasn’t quite the deluge we were expecting though..
“At the airport in Canberra there was about 54 millimetres which is very close to the monthly average of 58. Tuggeranong, a bit more than that, 60 millimetres, just below the monthly average of 70,” Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said.
“That rainfall’s very unusual for this time of year, given how close it is to being a month’s worth of rain in just a couple of days.”
And it looks like we’re going to have to wait even longer for summer to actually feel like summer.
More showers are expected this week, with about 10-15 millimetres forecast for the capital today.
“We’re looking at about another 10 millimetres on Tuesday and Wednesday and it looks like the heavier falls are going to stay to the north and east of the ACT,” Mr Dutschke said.
“But it’ll take a fair while to warm up once this rain has got out of the way. It’ll gradually warm up a bit later in the week but it’s not likely to warm above average, daytime temperatures reaching the mid 20’s, for at least another week.”
