Nick Kyrgios has admitted he mentally and physically failed at the Australian Open.

It’s after he blew a two set lead, to crash out of the second round to Italy’s Andreas Seppi.

“Mental side of things are big for me, that’s where a coach would be good. But obviously I wasn’t physically 100% but it’s mental as well, it’s a massive part of it,” Kyrgios said.

The 14th seed said he wasted his time off-season playing other sports.

“It’s on me I guess. My body’s not in good enough shape. Not play as much basketball next time and take my pre-season seriously.”

The tennis bad boy certainly got a wake up call when he was booed off the court.

“It’s not the greatest thing to hear. I didn’t have the best preparation coming into this round of the Open. Pretty banged up my body, I don’t even know what the score was in the end. Getting booed off was definitely not the best feeling.”

The match wasn’t without the usual Kyrgios controversy.

He was slapped with two code violations for swearing and racquet abuse and looked to have been in a running verbal battle with his entourage.

In good news for other Aussies at the Open, Bernard Tomic and Ash Barty are through to the third round.

Today, we’ll see Aussies Jordan Thompson and Andrew Whittington take to the court.
