Raiders second rower Josh Papalii has been named in Queensland’s State of Origin side to take on New South Wales in Game One at Suncorp Stadium next week.

It’s Papalii’s seventh appearance for the Maroons and the first time he’s been named to start.

Meanwhile, Billy Slater’s Origin career may be over, with the veteran fullback overlooked for the series opener.

Maroons selectors have snubbed Slater, again giving Darius Boyd the No. 1 jersey.

Champion playmaker Johnathon Thurston has been named as 18th man, with QLD Coach Kevin Walters conceding he was highly unlikely to be fit to play due to a shoulder injury.

Brisbane’s Anthony Milford has been named to debut at five-eighth in Thurston’s place.
