Canberrans have gone above and beyond to help a lady who’s known for helping others.

We brought you the story about a fundraiser that was started to help Canberra’s soup kitchen lady, Stasia Dubrowski, after her van was written off.

Since then, over $35,000 has been raised from the Go Fund Me campaign, way more than the original $8,000 target.

The money will be used to buy a new van, so Stasia and her grandson Josh can keep delivering fresh soup and bread to Canberra’s needy.

Any leftover money will help upgrade the soup kitchen service – things like new pots, tables and baskets.

They’re even looking at buying sleeping bags, bottles of water, Woolworths cars and tooth brushes to help locals in need.

Canberrans can see where their generous donations are going, with the new purchases to be uploaded to the soup kitchen Facebook page.

Many of those who’ve donated have also left loving messages of support.

“The generosity of the lovely people of Canberra melts my heart,” Shirley wrote.

“Good luck!!!! Much love to you for such an important cause,” Anna said.

“This is what being human is all about,” Gerard posted.

Great job Canberra!
