They’re the Canberra duo who’ve made us laugh and cry from their real life stories.
Ryan & Tanya have announced they will finish up as co-hosts of the HIT 104.7 Breakfast Show, with their last broadcast on Friday November 3.
The talented pair have picked up great opportunities elsewhere, with Ryan heading to Perth where he’ll do Breakfast with sister station, Hit 92.9.
“The company’s showing faith in me with a big promotion to a capital city with almost two million people and hopefully I can do them justice,” Ryan said.
Tanya, with her strong public profile built from her broadcast work and social media presence, has a lot planned for 2018.
“I’ve had some opportunities I just couldn’t turn down. What I’m doing next is the biggest undertaking of my career and it’s scary and amazing and I can’t wait to actually tell you… as soon as I’m able,” she said.
Canberra FM General Manager Craig Wagstaff congratulated the pair on their success to date and wished them well in their new roles.
"Whilst we would have loved for them to be the faces (and main voices) for the station again in 2018, we can’t be so selfish in not actively encouraging them both, towards fantastic opportunities that lay ahead. Great talent is always afforded strong options and as such, this was the basis for their respective decisions,” he said.
“We are extremely appreciative and grateful for what they have provided our audience, our commercial partners and the community during their near two years in Canberra. They came together with a clear charter to focus on relatable, entertaining, informative and innovative content for the target 18-39 year old audience of HIT104.7 and they have done that, and more - on-air, through many and varied on-ground events and of course, through ours and their social media and online platforms.”
As well as many hilarious moments, the pair have also touched audiences with their emotional stories, like Tanya’s R U OK Day coverage and Ryan’s recent story of his birth mother.
They’ve also had plenty of fun, from getting on the road to rim Canberra, to telling Kyle and Jackie O “sucked in” after Canberra won a tourist award and not Sydney.
Their success has certainly not gone unnoticed – both have appeared on high-profile TV shows and racked up millions of views for their online videos.
That has raised their personal profiles and given Canberra and the surrounding region some great exposure.
“Ryan and Tanya have been more than just a ratings success for HIT 104.7,” Content Director, Rod Cuddihy, said.
“They have entertained and informed Canberrans whilst drawing attention from around the country and the world to our amazing city.”
Ryan and Tanya said they couldn’t be more grateful for their supportive audience.
“Thank you for calling in, thank you for listening, thank you for coming to our events, thank you for letting us into your lives. We couldn’t do it without you! I will miss you! I am so thankful to Canberra for supporting our show,” Tanya said.
“Radio is nothing without the callers and commenters and it’s been awesome. Hopefully we made a commute a bit easier and I’m sure our replacements will be just as good (probably better) so give them a warm welcome,” Ryan added.
So, just what is in store for HIT 104.7 next year?
“2018 is already set to be HIT104.7’s biggest year yet, as we celebrate Skyfire’s 30th anniversary, the arrival of radio & comedy icons Hughesy & Kate for your drive home & the fantastic new HIT104.7 Breakfast team,” Mr Cuddihy said.
Stay tuned – the new team will be announced very soon!
