ACT Police believe a suspicious fire in Fyshwick this morning is bikie-gang related.

Around 12:15am, police arrived in Fyshwick to find the Comancheros clubhouse in Isa Street well alight.

The street was blocked in both directions as a standard safety measure.

Firefighters put out the blaze and the scene was handed over to police for investigation.

ACT Policing’s Taskforce Nemesis is looking into it, and believe the incident is bikie-gang related.

“There was a civil matter between the owner of the business and the Comancheros. That matter has been before the courts and that matter will form part of our inquiries,” Detective Superintendent Ben Cartwright said.

“We’re unsure of the motivating factors at this time, that’s why we’re looking into all lines on inquiry.”

The fire caused extensive damage.

“There was smoke and water damage to the premises either side, inside the building, there was extensive damage to property,” Detective Superintendent Cartwright said.

Police said the community can rest assured, they’re doing everything they can to crack down on such behaviour.

“These people who commit these crimes, be it outlaw motorcycle gangs or any other members of the community, must understand that ACT Policing takes these things very seriously, that could endanger anyone, and we will do everything we can to put these people before the courts,” Detective Superintendent Cartwright said.

Investigators will canvass the area for CCTV and are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
