It was a sea of sausage dogs at the Bungendore Show.

154 pups turned up for the Werriwa Weiner Dash -  the record for the number of dachshunds in the same place at once.

“Guinness said it’s too specialised an event for them so with this one we’re counting that as setting the official world record and we’ll let other people try to beat us,” Chief weiner wrangler, Mark Ellis, said.

Mark’s dog Obi-Wan, dressed as Harry Potter, took out second place in the costume competition.

A bride took out the top spot with a very long train of taffeta!

In the big race, Buddy from the ACT took out top honours.

Mark said it can be quite an effort to get the dogs to participate properly, but it’s all in good fun.

“They have one handler release the dog then another family member try to entice them to the other end with a squeaky toy or their favourite blankie, and make as much noise and excitement as possible,” he said.

“We had a few who thought it was all about chasing each other rather than trying to beat the other one!”

And it’s all for a good cause too, raising money for Dachshund Rescue Australia.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event, so expect to see plenty more sausage dogs at the Bungendore Show next year!
