There’s been some positive news in the recovery of a Canberra primary school teacher, who suffered brain haemorrhages while on a family holiday in Japan last month.

Jacob Burridge is now awake and breathing on his own since undergoing major surgery.

He’s even spoken and waved to his wife Waka and daughter Matia!

There’s still a long road of recovery ahead though, with Jacob expected to have to stay in Japan for at least three months.

If Jacob’s recovery goes well and he’s able to walk with a walking stick or use a wheelchair, he’ll be able to return home and continue therapy here.

Fundraising efforts are ongoing, with a GoFundMe page already raising more than $104,000 – getting close to the $115,000 target.
