Canberrans have shivered through the capital’s coldest February morning on record!

We had a May-like morning in February, with the temperature dropping to a chilly 2.8 degrees.

Some people even managed to spot a light frost on the ground in parts of the ACT.

“The reason why it was so cold this morning is because we had that strong cold front move through over the weekend, dropping temperatures, it even produced snow on the Victorian Alps,” Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe said.

“But then last night we had clear skies and very light winds and that allowed the temperature to drop all the way down to that new February record.”

The previous record was set in 1962 and again in 1985, with the mercury falling to 3 degrees.

We are assured, it will start to feel like summer again soon!

“The rest of this week is going to be much warmer in the overnight compared to last night. We’re looking at minimum temperatures ranging from 10 to 14 and daytime temps will also be a bit warmer over the next couple of days as we see temps reach up into the mid-thirties,” Mr Sharpe said.
