The ACT Government is cracking down on speeding in the capital, with two new vans added to the mobile camera fleet.

"This will mean that they can now target 300 sites a week operating day and night seven days across the city to help improve road safety,” Road Safety Minister Shane Rattenbury said.

It’s as a recent study shows mobile speed vans are the most effective way of reducing speeding and injury crashes.

"They're certainly much more effective than the fixed speed cameras and that's why the Government is increasing investment in the mobile vans.”

The two new vans, which take the total number to eight, are already up and running.

“Last year the govt invited people to nominate sites where the vans should be operating from where people were concerned about speeding and the vans will be taking up those sites where people have requested."

Mr Rattenbury said there is a clear link between speeding a car crashes.

"That's why we're determined to try to slow people down a bit, drive within the speed limit, and therefore reduce the number of injuries on our roads."

So take care Canberra, and slow down!
