A group of talented Canberra teenagers have been given a big confidence boost, after taking out the Australian Dance Crew Championships in their age division.

The group of seven students aged 15-18 from Daramalan College, St Clare’s College and St John Paul College worked hard to put together their hip hop piece – which was a stand-out for the judges.

Owner of PLAY the Dance Agency, Cassie Grening, said she couldn’t be prouder.

“We walked away with the title, $2000 to go towards the studio, a big trophy and a lot of pride,” she said.

“The routine was tight and the choreography was next level and obviously the judges agreed!”

Cassie said the win is particularly special for this group, who are dealing with all the usual stuff that comes with being a teenager at high school.

“There’s a lot of cyber bullying and issues like that so to be able to come together and work towards a common goal and such an achievement, is a high like nothing else,” she said.

“Working together and channelling their energy that way, rather than sitting behind their phone or a computer screen, has been really good for them. It definitely does boost their confidence.”

So, what’s next for the PLAY VARSITY crew?

They’re headed to Sydney at the end of the month for the World Supremacy Battlegrounds, where they’ll compete against the best in Australia and around the world.

We wish them all the best!
