What do you like to wear on a plane? Ideally, something comfy right? Like trackies or leggings?

Well, one airline has deemed leggings inappropriate – creating a social media storm.

United Airlines has copped harsh backlash online after a staff member barred two young female passengers from boarding a flight in the US because they were wearing leggings.

Passenger Shannon Watts was at the gate at Denver, waiting to board a flight, when she witnessed the strange incident and started tweeting about it.

The airline went into damage control, defending the decision on Twitter.

United Airlines clarified, the passengers were “pass travellers” – employees or members of their family who fly at a discounted rate.

The incident has blown up on social media, attracting criticism from people far and wide, including actress Patricia Arquette.

It’s understood, the girls were eventually allowed on the plane, after getting changed.
