Ladies there is a new ride share service just for us.

Director George McEncroe said Shebah was created by women for women. It invites applications from women to be drivers and picks up female passengers. She said the service also gives women, who aren't keen to be driven home by a strange man, some piece of mind.

Ms McEncroe said her daughter is old enough to be riding in taxis now and one of her friend's had a frightening experience.

So she said this idea was born out of her experience in cabs when she was younger. Ms McEncroe said sometimes she wouldn't like "where the conversation was going, I had the odd cabbie put their hand on my knee, or ask me if I had a boyfriend or things like that and I'd just say oh just pull over, this is where I live and I'd just wait for the cab to move on".

She said it was "developed to offer a way into the market for women who've been looking at the ride share option of, I'd like to be in that field but I'm a bit anxious about driving around with blokes that I don't know, perhaps they've had a few too many drinks".

Ms McEnroe said she had applied to drive for Uber a couple of times and each time she thought about it, it just felt unsafe. She said women aren't typically driving cabs either. It occurred to her that women have licenses, they're good drivers, cheaper to insure and have fewer accidents. She said fear seems to be a big factor in women choosing not to get into the sector.

She said Shebah has really struck a chord with the general public. She said some women are driving for Uber but mostly just during the day. The ones she spoke to said they would drive at night but only if they could just pick up other women.

Ms McEncroe said in a way it's a thing women are doing for each other anyway for free. She said many of us are already picking up each other's kids from school or take them to swimming lessons, but now there's a way to earn money doing just that.
