Two men will appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court after being charged over a brutal road rage assault on the M1, that has left a Gold Coast tradie fighting for life in hospital.

29-year-old Brock Prime was violently bashed by up to 13 people, some of them armed, along the highway near Yatala on Saturday night in what police believe was a random attack.

It's believed Prime's Subaru almost collided with the group's mini van before a "cat and mouse game" started where the vehicles were weaving through traffic on the wet road, both cars then decided to pull over and the fight broke out. The group fled the scene before emergency crews arrived, leaving the concreter with serious head injuries and brain damage. He remains in a coma in Gold Coast University hospital.

Early on Monday police said they had arrested two men in their 20s, from Surfers Paradise and Ormeau, charging them with grievous bodily harm. Detectives have called for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage of the M1 between Pimpama and Yatala from around 9:30pm on Saturday to contact Crimestoppers.

A GoFundMe has also been set up to support Prime's family, who are also dealing with the recent unexpected death of his father. More than $12,000 has already been raised in less than 24 hours.
