A Gold Coast teenager has been charged with murder over a hit and run that killed a good Samaritan attempting to help the victims of a violent home invasion on Boxing Day.
Police in December said 50-year-old Darren Pullar, of Yatala, died after being run over on Rio Vista Boulevard, Broadbeach Waters, by a car leaving the scene of a home invasion around 1.25am.
It's believed he was in a nearby unit at the time of the attack and was going to the aid of his neighbours when he was struck by the car.
Detective Acting Inspector Greg Aubort said at the time there was nothing to link Mr Pullar to the two men involved in the incident.
"There's no evidence to suggest he was involved in the lead-up to this incident, it may be a case of the wrong place, wrong time," he said.
Police have charged a 17-year-old Varsity Lakes male with murder, attempted burglary and assault occasioning bodily harm over the incident.
He will face Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
