Ipswich residents will no long have access to recycling due to rising costs.
China recently announced a ban on the importation of waste from overseas - and now recycling contractors have told the council the charge to dispose of recycling will rise by about $2 million each year. This would lead to an estimated 1.5 to 2 per cent rate increase.
Other councils around Australia will have to face similar decisions as recycling stockpiles reach limits.
Today the Queensland council made the decision to landfill all recycling - until they can find another solution.
